What is it that you dig about dinosaurs?
They’re just so dang big. It’s the only instance where we as humans could imagine being like insects. I used to have nightmares as a kid about “longnecks” stamping my house to bits and T-Rexes hunting me down, so being interested in them now is like facing my little-kid fears.
Also, Jurassic Park was the shit as an 8-year-old, and now. Jeff Goldblum makes any woman want to be the future ex-Mrs. Malcolm.
How did you get inspired to make your craft?
I always order Christmas gifts on Etsy. As I was wrapping some pillows up for some pals I thought, “Hell, I can make this.” Plus my last name means “sewing hand” in Italian or something so I always felt pressure to do something about that.
What will you be bringing to Phoenix DinoCon this year?
Little dino pillows of all shapes and sizes and species and you name it. I’m talking diplodocuses, raptors, triceratops, and the great tyrannosaurus paired with pastels and flower prints because that’s what’s cute to me.
Where is the best place to see more of your work online?
Etsy is really the only place to check out these little fluffers. I should probably get a Web site.
Anything else you’d like to add?
These days there really is a “con” for everything, and I’m glad there’s one for adult people who want to talk about Dr. Grant and maybe Ross Geller and other fake paleontologists. And they say Phoenix has no culture.
Phoenix DinoCon is August 2nd 2014 A.D., and we’re excited to have Lauren in our Velociraptor Vendor Hall. Follow her on twitter, and check out her Etsy shop for more of her awesome pillows!
